Cost of Living

Since its inception in 1988, the Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection (JCTR) has placed the dignity of every Zambian at the heart of its work. The Cost of Living has remained our core concern, as we believe that the ability to meet basic needs is fundamental to human dignity and social justice. Through tools such as the Basic Needs and Nutrition Basket (BNNB), we continue to amplify the lived realities of ordinary households, advocating for policies that enable all Zambians to live decent and dignified lives.

Basic Needs & Nutrition Basket (BNNB) Reports Archive

Since 1999, the JCTR has consistently produced the Basic Needs and Nutrition Basket (BNNB) as a tool for promoting social justice through evidence-based advocacy on the cost of living in Zambia. The BNNB tracks the cost of essential goods and services necessary for a family of five to live a decent and dignified life, thereby informing public policy and economic planning.

The archive below hosts monthly BNNB reports published over the years, offering a comprehensive record of trends in household costs and socio-economic conditions across various towns in Zambia. Researchers, policy makers, civil society actors, and the general public are encouraged to make use of this valuable resource.

Each year’s reports are compiled in ZIP folders for ease of access and download. Kindly select the year of interest below to download the corresponding files.
